Binondo is mostly known as the Chinatown of the Philippines, a place where people can trace their Chinese ancestry and marvel at how people can still preserve the cultural heritage.

But what is also noteworthy about Binondo is its contribution in terms of food. There are a lot of great foodstuffs and restaurants in Binondo just waiting to be discovered and shared.

So come on guys, share your thoughts on what are good to eat in Binondo!

Hopia is one of the best foods to eat in Binondo. These round sticky sweets with flavors such as monggo (mung bean), ube (purple yam), baboy (pork), macapuno (sweet coconut), pineapple, etc. are really a great starter in terms of getting a feel of Binondo.

My suggestion as to where to go for Hopia is Bee Bee Deli (682 Ongpin St. Binondo) where you can buy Eng Bee Tin hopia. They make even hopia combos (two flavors in one hopia)!

When I first visited Ong Pin, we ate in a Restaurant called Lok Fu. The food was great, the ambiance was great. One thing good about this Chinese Resto is that you can have company conferences here. But I don't know if Lok Fu is still around though.

A food institution in Binondo which offers authentic Chinese cuisine. However it closed down due to internal problems.

The President's restaurant "in the making" now in Binondo is Ying-ying's which is cheaper according to my Chinese friend. There are rumors that the chief cook of President's restaurant transferred to Ying-ying's. If that's true, then we should try them.:)

One authentic Chinese food that I've tried at the President's is their Peking duck. I believe Peking duck for the Chinese is much like our 'lechon'; a big celebration will not be complete if it is not included in the course.

When you order Peking duck at the President's, the waitress will ask you if you want it sliced already or served whole. For us, we normally ask them to slice it before serving; after all that is their expertise.:) The sliced crispy skin and meat are served with lettuce, onions and other vegetables, a flat pita-like or thin chapatti-like bread, and hoisin sauce. Yummy!;)

I so love Sincerity! When I was a kid, it used to be called Sincerity Cafe and it was located there in the office and school supplies district. My parents used to go a lot in VAECO (now VECO) and I was relegated to hanging out in Sincerity which was just beside it.

I love the duck soup in here. It was gamey and intense and the duck was really tender. I just don't know if they still serve it because it's been so long since I've eaten here. :)

My friend brought me to "Estero." At first I was hesitant but I was also curious coz she said that they have big and yummy servings. It's literally beside the river but so far the food was good and I believe they have an aircon area for those who want a better place to dine in. Really cheap, really good.

There's a small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant along Soler (on the opposite side of 168 Mall and near the shops selling lamps) that serve the best siomai I've tasted. Pure meat. Mmmmm ...

Lido is one of my favorite breakfast places. I am also a big fan of hopia which can be bought at Eng Bee Tin.

Do they have diced hopia as well? It's my favorite. Any flavor will do. By the way does anyone have a recipe for that?
