The Philippines is known for its fresh and succulent seafood. In the bay area in Roxas boulevard alone, you'll find several restaurants which offers fresh seafood. And the 'in' thing now is that you'll buy it fresh and still alive and they will do the cooking infront of you.
I always crave for seafoods. Good for me because I'm not allergic to it. ;) My favorite would be crabs, prawns, talaba, tahong, tuna, blue marlin, tangigue,...didn't I almost mention all of it?haha!
How about you, what's your favorite?

Butterflied shrimps sauteed in loads of garlic, butter, and seven-up is also good!
Chili crabs are also great though I think they are quite messy to eat.
Tilapia rules too! Especially if its fresh and right off the grill. Perfect with a salad of tomatoes, green mangoes, and bagoong.

I like it raw with vinegar, onion, ginger and spices. Just a precaution, even if you're used to eating oysters, never try eating it with an empty stomach. I've experienced this during my daughter's birthday. I was so busy entertaining visitors that I didn't notice I haven't eaten anything. Then I saw my hubby feasting on the fresh oysters. I was hypnotized with the scenario so I joined him. Few hours after that I was already vomiting and my tummy was cramping big time...:D

I love baked tahong! I like how the flavor just bursts in my mouth. Yummy! I also like fried fishes like galunggong, tilapia, bangus. These are readily available in the market, easy to cook, and light on the stomach.

Yep, they call it either lato or ar-arusip. They are best eaten with calamansi/vinegar, sliced tomatoes and onions like a salad. They are crunchy and gelatinous at the same time with a hint of salt water if very fresh.

Now I remember. We call it 'ar-arusip' too. Another seaweed that I've tasted is 'ur-urmot'. 'Urmot' is an Ilokano word which means roots. And as the word implies, it does look like roots. I barely see this seaweed in the market now. Could be the effect of global warming.

To make the most of galunggong and turn it into a gastronomic delight, try marinating the galunggong paksiw style (vinegar, a bit of salt and pepper, ginger, and a bit of sugar if you like) then deep fry it in very hot oil until it becomes super crispy.
The paksiw marinade gives it a sweet sour taste that matches well with the crisp and because it crisps out, you can even eat the "tinik" or bones!
Goes very well with a cucumber salad (sliced cucumbers, cane vinegar, sugar, and pepper) and of course piping hot steamed rice.
Happy eating!

Sugpo and Crabs are the best! Eating it without utensils and instead on eating on plates you could replace it with Banana Leaf... Makes the eating experience more exciting and fun!
