Hi everyone! I'd like to explore the philippines, so many great stories about it, but i hear its not such a great place for vegetarians. Filipinos apparently like their meat a lot. Im sure that's not entirely true. Its just hard to be a traveler and not be able to eat well as a vegetarian. Please give some info about food. not too expensive and safe to eat for someone who has a sensitive tummy. are there vegetarian resto's around?

There are restaurants in the Philippines that offer vegetarian food.

Up north in Baguio, there’s Bliss Café. It’s got an artsy vibe . I like their “No Oink” Sisig. It’s an alternative to the infamous Pork Sisig especially loved by beer drinkers. What’s nice is that they even have a menu for kids so that they won’t feel out of place in a veggie place. It’s located in the Lobby of Hotel Elizabeth (Gibraltar St. Corner J Felipe) and it’s near the Presidential Mansion. I believe it is open every day from 9 am to 11 pm.

When you are in Manila and you want fast-food style, you can simply head to Bodhi. It’s in the food courts of Glorietta and Megamall. It’s tasty and very budget-friendly as well.

In Makati City, there’s Mother Sachi Restaurant at 3890 Araro Street. It wants to proves that vegetarian foods need not be boring nor bland. The place is nice and simple as well.

When you head a little south of Manila there’s Sonya’s Garden in Buck Estate, Alfonso, Cavite (very near Tagaytay City). This has gown reputation not only for the food it serves but for the lovely ambience. If you wish to stay for the night, they also have a romantic bed and breakfast that’s very serene as well. They also have a spa – a total retreat! I wish I had a lovely place like this.

If you plan to rent a pad where you can cook, try the veggie meat. You can buy this in big groceries or specialty stores here in Manila.

I'm not a vegetarian but I'm trying to cut down on meat. The best veggie meat that I've tried came from manila sanitarium. It's almost as tender as the real meat. And tastes good too.;)

If you are to visit Quezon City, Metro Manila, there is a vegetarian restaurant called Greens. It fits all your criteria and once a year, it holds a vegetarian- around-the-world buffet wherein it features vegetarian dishes from around the world. Eating in Greens will set one back by P300 (around $6) so it isn't bad at all.

Here's a sampling of what you can order at Greens:
Fried Mushrooms P80
Pumpkin Soup 50
Greens House Salad 105
Fresh Tomato and Basil Pasta 80

As for the exact location, Greens is at 20-A Scout Tuazon cor. Scout Castor, South Triangle, QC. Tel. No. is 02 415 4796

I'd have to agree that the best veggie meat comes from Manila Sanitarium. My dad had cancer and he was ordered to go vegetarian and this was where we got the veggie food. Must tries also in Manila Sanitarium are the veggie siopaos (veggie pork buns) and the veggie barbecue.

I haven't eaten in Glorietta Food Court (located in Ayala Makati) but before I used to eat food from a vegetarian stall called Evergreen by Bodhi.

They make really good "chicken" curry, "beef" and mushrooms, and sweet and sour "pork" coupled with a very fresh steamed garlic and spinach siding and cup of steamed rice.

And all for the affordable price P89 (less than $2)!

Green's is a great place to start for a vegetarian especially for those who think vegetarian food is bland food.

Greens is a really great place to start and quite affordable to given the fact that most vegetarians diets kinda cost a lot.

I thought of putting up a veggie eatery and dream of naming it "Oh my Gulay!" Maybe, somewhere in the Philippines somebody has done it. I do like vegetables not only for it's health value but also for I find veggies to be palatable. The Northern Provinces are conducive for vegetable farming. Canlaon in Negros also grow great vegetables.

Oh My Gulay is a project of the Department of Agriculture to encourage people to plant and eat "local" vegetables. In fact, they have a recipe book with the same title that contains different dishes that can be made from indigenous and herb plants.
