Food dominates the life of the Filipino. People here just love to eat. We eat...hmmm...would you guys agree...at least six times a day? These eight official meals are called, in order: breakfast, snacks, lunch, merienda, pica pica, pulutan, and dinner. The short gaps in between, well -- this is just me -- I eat crackers. I'm always on a diet. :p

One expat in the office who stayed here for 9 months had this to say about our culture: "When a Filipino is eating, you can NEVER go past them without being asked to eat. So whether it's 1 or 2 in the morning, I guess you're all taught to share the food you have, like you have more than enough. Don't get me wrong. It's great! It's uniquely Filipino."

Before he left for the US, me and my team of agents finally convinced him to eat 'balut' (fertilized duck egg). For the non-Pinoys reading this, Balut is eaten with salt. Usually starts with one sipping the "soup" (where the partially-formed duck is swimming in), then eats the yolk (nope, not the duck YET), then finishes off by eating the oh,so teeny-weeny half-formed duck. It may come with small feathers or bill. Yummy!! :D

I agree. My mom who hails from Pampanga and my dad from Nueva Ecija are superb cooks (though they are not professionals. haha!). I guess there's just sooo much food! Perhaps our love of food refelcts on the huge amount of street foods available, the sprouting food carts everywhere, and the growing number of obese in our country.

It is indeed true. Once I read a business magazine, it says there since Filipinos love to eat, the best business is Food Business

Filipinos are also not picky when it comes to food. They would try everything in the menu.

Yeah I agree. We are not picky maybe because of our culture. We eat anything as long as it is edible. Our taste buds are better than foreign ones. :D I don't know if you agree with that. :D

Also, they'd rather eat in a traditional karinderia that in a foreign fast food. that is the true pinoy.

Well I agree with the thread starter on this, and I can see that everyone does too. Filipinos love to eat. When theres a special occassion, we'll have a feast, when theres something going on, we talk about it with food, whenever after a meeting food will be served (based on my experience) I don't know if we inherited this gesture but all I remember is this is our own original trait. We love to eat and we are also good cooks!

And I think that anyone in the world knows about that.

We celebrate Christmases and Fiestas for extended days and for the entire stretch, we have food!!

One time on my way to work, I closed my eyes for half a minute and when I opened them...no surprise -- I saw someone eating something in their car. Hahaha Now THAT's love for food!!:D

:(What's "Kepet Letche"? Mexican food (like burrito) contains rice. Maybe it's the sauce that's included in your taco. Or maybe you can't stand the mixture of flavor in your mouth. Just like my cousin, he can't eat Paella because of the different flavors that's incorporated in one mouthful.

filipinos are truly indeed a food lover. in our class everytime the teacher is absent or late my classmates would always sneak out from our classroom and eat merienda in the car park area( fast foods and restos located in UST) some have cut classes just to eat the food they crave for :)

When we had a balikbayan over, and we offered them food upon arrival, they heartily declined. They said they were visiting relatives the whole day, and they kept getting offered food wherever they went. Ours was the last stop on a long day, and they said that they have eaten so much already.

Since we don't have much by way of attractions, our way of entertaining balikbayans or foreigners is to take them out for food. It also helps that there are many restaurants that specialize in varied cuisines that have sprouted up.

That's true we really love to eat! But it's sad to see that even if there are lots of restaurants and food carts around there are still so many people who have nothing to eat or who doesn't eat 3x a day. It's time for us to be socially aware and help also our unfortunate kababayans:(

Aside from eating so many times a day, we never forget to eat food with our favorite KANIN! Haha. Kanin/Cooked rice is our staple food and even if it's merienda, some people really resort to eating it with instant noodles or coco jam, or actually anything! :D
